“Secure, attended relationships begin with connection.”

—Natural Lifemanship

When we work with horses, we must learn to communicate and connect with them, using non-verbal cues and body language. This can be a powerful experience, as it requires us to be fully present in the moment and attuned to our own emotions and body sensations.

I am an Equine Assisted Psychotherapist...

Certified by Natural Lifemanship

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a therapeutic approach that involves working with horses as part of a mental health treatment program. The idea behind EAP is that horses can help people develop self-awareness, improve their communication skills, and build emotional resilience. Horses are highly intuitive and sensitive animals that are able to pick up on our non-verbal cues and emotional states. Through working with horses, people can learn more about themselves and their relationships with others.

One of the key benefits of EAP is the opportunity to develop a deep connection with horses. Horses are social animals that have evolved to live in herds, and as such, they are highly attuned to social dynamics and emotional states. When we work with horses, we must learn to communicate with them on their terms, using non-verbal cues and body language. This can be a powerful experience, as it requires us to be fully present in the moment and attuned to our own emotions and body sensations.

The connection with horses can also help people overcome feelings of isolation and disconnection. Horses are non-judgmental and accepting, and they can provide a sense of comfort and companionship that may be lacking in people’s lives. In addition, working with horses requires us to be in a state of mindfulness and focus, which can help us overcome negative thought patterns and increase our sense of well-being.

EAP has been used to treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction, and eating disorders. It is often used in conjunction with other forms of therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychotherapy.

The way I work with horses and humans is a powerful therapeutic approach that can help people develop self-awareness, improve their communication skills, and build emotional resilience. The connection with horses is a key part of the EAP experience, as it provides an opportunity to develop a deep sense of connection and emotional awareness.
