This 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) is a scientifically researched mindfulness program developed 30 years ago by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. After three decades of published research, those who have participated in MBSR courses around the world report:
- Lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms
- An increased ability to relax
- Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away
- Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
- Improved self-esteem
- An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.
Although MBSR is an educational program and not a substitute for medical treatment or psychotherapy is has proved helpful for those with a variety of challenges once treatment or therapy are complete including:
- Stress from job, family, finances
- Chronic Pain, or illness
- Chronic anxiety or panic
- Gastrointestinal distress
- High Blood Pressure
- Sleeplessness
- Grief/loss
- Headaches/Depression/Fatigue
Course Curriculum
This course is intensive in nature, and requires a commitment for the eight weeks. The curriculum incorporates the following:
- Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
- Gentle stretching and mindful yoga (any level)
- Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
- Individually tailored instruction
- Daily home assignments
- Four home practice CDs and a home practice manual
